Alex’s Activities

Peat Cutting

People in the North of Scotland have burned peat for centuries. We cut peats every year – the aroma when they are burning is very evocative of the Highlands. Learn about and take part in the tradition of peat cutting and drying if you are here during April, May or June. Wear some old clothes – or we can provide some! You will enjoy some typical refreshment out on the moor, and if you have an open fire or log burner we’ll give you a few peats to take home with you – the scent of burning peats will remind you of your holiday.
